Comforting yourself

One of the things we often forget to do is to comfort yourself. If you are like me, you are most likely comforting everyone else but you, probably because we never took ourselves THAT seriously. Why? Because I grew up in India, where I met at least 20 new people everyday and made at least 5 new friends every week with at least 100 people around me at any given time. So the community-centric feeling is strong and intense vs the individual caring etc. unless you get a “boo-boo”.

So fast forward 15 years, the suburban mom in me has finally settled into taking care of self after letting go of feeling guilty of it. It all started with a pedicure…..

But I am not here today to talk about pedicure or facial or neflixing GOT. I am here to blog about comforting YOURSELF and not what others say comforts them. When you want to comfort yourself because your going through a shitty day or had a shitty relationship or just generally feeling shitty, then think about your 5 senses – TASTE, SMELL, HEARING, TOUCH and SIGHT.

Now, make a list what makes you feel good in each of those areas. For example, you feel comforted when you eat ice-cream. You are comforted when you hear rain drops. You love someone giving you a hug or simply pressing your feet. Now chose atleast 2-3 things in this list and act on it. For me, smelling freshly baked cake in the oven is the best comfort of them all…..give it a try and tell me what you think!
